A competition application
Win a holiday for two people for a month in the USA. Spend a week in New York and then drive across the country from East to West. For their application for the competition, we want people to write about their lives for a magazine article about ‘Typical lives’.
My name is Melisa Adem and I’m 19 years old. I’m Turkish and I’m from Izmir. Izmir is a beautiful old city and is famous for its history. I live in a big house with my parents and I study at the university. At the moment I am studying English. When I finish I want to be a teacher – I love helping children.
From Monday to Friday I get up at 7:30, have a shower and breakfast and then leave for university. I usually go by bus and it takes thirty minutes to get from my house to the university. On the bus I like reading or talking to my friends. At the weekend I get up late, and I usually help my father in his shop in the afternoon – he sells souvenirs. In my free time I like going to the beach or taking my dog for a walk. I also love travelling. Last summer I went on holiday with my boyfriend. We spent three weeks in July travelling around France and Italy. I can speak Italian, but I can’t speak French. The holiday was fantastic. We didn’t have a lot of money, so we decided to go camping.
I’m Josh Taylor and I’m 32 years old. I’m from the UK. I’m English, but my parents are American. They live in Manchester, but I don’t live with them. I live in a small flat in the centre of Leeds. It’s a city in the centre of England. I work in a factory. I hate my job, but the money is good.
